Over four decades ago, I began my studies in dentistry at the Hebrew University, where I earned my DMD and conducted research on bone fracture healing. This foundational research sparked my enduring interest in oral biology, particularly in guided bone regeneration and dental implants. I continued to explore this field through my subsequent PhD work, which delved into the regulatory mechanisms of altered biochemical pathways in oral cancer. My clinical specialization in oral and maxillofacial surgery furthered my expertise. As a surgical specialist turned founder of Schwartz-Arad Surgical Center, I have not only contributed to a redefined approach to patient care but have also led groundbreaking research in oral surgery, focusing heavily on bone atrophy and augmentation, peri-implantitis, and biomaterials. My work has provided significant insight on surgical techniques in modern implant dentistry. In addition, my academic roles at Tel Aviv University and Hebrew University, where I instruct and mentor future medical professionals, complement my clinical and research pursuits. I have headed multiple committees for continuing dental education courses, and developed master classes, study clubs, and continuing education programs. As a principal investigator and co-investigator on numerous grants, I have worked with advanced, state-of-the-art methodologies for studying implant dentistry at the clinical and molecular level, contributing significantly to our understanding and treatment of complex problems.
