Studies in Art History, History and Archaeology in Cologne, Germany.
The studies were not completed, as Birgit Wolff had already begun working editorially for the German public broadcaster Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR) during her school and university years.
Her path into journalism began during secondary school, where she served for several years as Editor-in-Chief of the school newspaper. Through a cooperation project, she joined WDR and continued working in broadcasting and editorial journalism.
School and University Years — Editorial Work, Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR)
Early professional experience in radio and editorial journalism at the German public broadcaster WDR.
Since the early 1980s — Specialist Journalist and Communications Professional in Healthcare and Dentistry
Worked as a press office journalist and communications specialist for healthcare organizations, dental practices and scientific dental societies.
Over the course of her career, Birgit Wolff served, at different times, as press spokesperson or communications professional for organizations including:
2007 — Founder, Buena Vista Dentista Club / Dentista
Founded the first German association dedicated specifically to female dentists. The organization was initially established as the Buena Vista Dentista Club and later became known as Dentista Club and subsequently Dentista.
Its mission was to represent the interests of the rapidly growing number of women in dentistry within a profession that, at the time, was still predominantly male.
Initiator — German Society for Gender Dentistry
Initiated the scientifically oriented German Society for Gender Dentistry, dedicated to gender-specific aspects of dentistry. Following the death of its scientific director, PD Dr. Dr. Christiane Gleissner, the society was no longer actively continued. Its legacy includes a scientific award maintained by Dentista.
Since 2007 — Dental Journal for Women in Dentistry
Birgit Wolff developed the journal associated with Dentista at the time the organization was founded in 2007.
The journal has been published quarterly ever since and is now published by Quintessence Publishing.
A distinctive feature of the publication has remained unchanged since its first issue: every cover features a female dentist and Dentista member who is presented in more detail inside the journal — reflecting the philosophy that female dental professionals themselves should be visible rather than relying on professional photo models.
Alumni Award — Bundesverband der Zahnmedizinischen Alumni
Awarded for her exceptional commitment to the interests and professional development of young female and male dentists.
Leading Ladies in Dentistry
Selected as a member of Leading Ladies in Dentistry — an honor she considers a particularly meaningful recognition of her professional engagement.
